Charlevoix Maple Syrup

Charlevoix Maple Syrup

Since the early 1900’s, our family has been tapping into Michigan’s abundant resource of maple trees. Our 320 acre farm is located in Charlevoix, Michigan, in the NW corner of Michigan’s lower peninsula. Each spring, when outside temperatures rise above freezing during the day and fall below at night, thousands of maple trees on our farm “wake up!” It’s time to make maple syrup in Charlevoix! Clear, natural sap flows abundantly from the trees. Our family and friends gather to help on our farm…and hard work & good times begin.

We tap (or drill a hole in) the tree and insert a spile (or spout). Our spiles are connected to tubing so we can collect as much sap as possible without damaging the forest floor. Then we boil the sap over a wood fire in a large pan called an evaporator. As it cooks, a wonderful aroma fills the saphouse, and steam billows into the sky. It takes between 40 and 60 gallons of sap to make one gallon of maple syrup. Nothing is added during the process. Our goals are to produce the golden, delicious product that is one of nature’s finest gifts and to offer you the best-tasting  pure maple syrup available!

Following the example of those before us, our family is dedicated to the preservation and conservation of the 320 acres of land that we farm in Charlevoix. We do not use any chemicals, additives, preservatives, or harmful forestry practices in our maple syrup production process.
